Cravings...

Cravings...what every woman goes through almost every week, lol!! This past week I've had too many cravings! I've craved all kinds of foods from Java's chicken strips salad, to Mama Kenty's fried fish (she's the 'local' lady who sells fish in my neighbourhood).

Since 2008, I've just been adding weight...why? God knows!! Sometimes I find it a good thing, coz my previous skinny self was not-so-attractive. But now, I'm not really liking how I'm ballooning all of a sudden. I want to hit the gym..but I don't have the time. I want to eat healthy, but I'm too lazy. I think I should list this in my New Year resolutions (which I rarely follow).

New Year Resolutions 2011:

* Hit the gym (frequently)
* Eat healthy (always)

Speaking of healthy eating, I love salads...and sandwiches...and here are some of favourite "eye-candy" when it comes to healthy eating :)

The banana and nutella sandwich. I don't know if it should be classified as healthy..but it's quite a treat :)

The classic tuna sandwich. I just love it :)

Subways. What more to say. Choose your filling and you're good to go :)

Potato salad...sigh!

The Russian salad. My mum used to make it for us...and still does..she learnt how to make it when she was studying in Russia. It's AWESOME!! Trust me :)

Greek salad. Had my first at the then known 'Nandos'. With the perfect Greek dressing, it's tantalizing!

HEAT! HEAT! AND MORE HEAT!!

Nairobi of late feels like Dubai, Qatar and Egypt weather all combined!! The heat is outrageous! I keep getting constant headaches every evening because of walking around in the sun. If there's a way I could avoid it, I would it. But the sun is just there..following you everywhere you go...sigh!

Of course with weather change comes a change of clothes. You start shedding the wool and knits and trade them for linens and cottons. I love shopping...and I love checking out different fashion trends online (not to follow them religiously) but to keep up to date with the latest.

Here are a few of my favourites during this hot season...

You can never go wrong with shorts. Gives the legs more than enough air to breathe :)

Dresses. Whether a maxi dress or a short laid-back feel of a dress, they add a feminine touch to your look.

I think the Kaftan is one of the greatest inventions in fashion history ever!! They're comfy, and perfect to wear in the hot sun.

And when it comes to shoes...OPEN is the way to go. So sandals and wedges is the best option.

So go out, and remember...LESS is MORE! (in the summertime of course) :)

Let's talk about S....

So today, in the morning show "Eyewitness Morning on K24", I talked to Getrude Mungai on Communicating Sexual Issues between parents and children, and between married couples. Initially, the content of the show was to centre mainly on how to talk about 'The Birds and Bees' with your children. But the show took a whole complete turn when people kept texting raunchy...and I mean R-A-U-N-C-H-Y questions.

Getrude Mungai is a Lifestyle Designer in Sex and Relationships (the title 'Sexologist' died for obvious reasons) and she's very bold, blunt and frank in talking about sex. She gave advice to both men and women (in the marriage context that is) on how to spice up their sex lives, health and hygiene issues amongst many other issues.

As much as I was swirling and turning in my seat...and I was perspiring internally...I actually enjoyed the show. Not that I think sex should never be talked about...but I was in the public eye for those one and a half hours..and you know how people can read news anchors through their expressions. And seeing that I'm not married, I had to find a way, to look shocked yet not shocked, nod my head yet not nod my head....sigh...I tried to stay calm. But the questions people were asking? OUTRAGEOUS!!

It just shows that SEX is a topic that needs to be discussed openly and freely because trust me, people out there are ignorant.

*At least I got me a free copy of her book "Questions&Answers with Getrude Mungai". You can check out her website on www.getrudemungai.com

Queens of Neo-Soul

As you may have noticed with my posts..I love music! I'm a fan of gospel music, afro-fusion and neo-soul. I'm a relaxed, laid back kind of girl when it comes to music. The slower...the better. Not disregarding the other genres of music, because I can still listen to them. HOW-EVER (said in an Ian Mbugua tone) I prefer a slower speed in my music.

And here's to appreciating a few of my favourites...

Vivian Green. A breath of fresh air in soul.
Lauryn Hill. A legend who still lives on.

Jill Scott. Beautiful. Funky. Soulful.

India Arie. Inspiring. Deep.

Floetry. Just floetic :)

Erykah Badu. She's in a league of her own.

Corrine Bailey Rae. A sweet sound.

Angie Stone. Queen of soul (in my opinion)

Saying it in pictures

I'm finally getting the hang of blogging with pictures. It really brings 'colour' to my posts :) Plus, I love seeing images more than lots of words piled up in paragraphs. I'm no photographer..yet...but someday I will be. Can't wait to get my hands on those Nikon D-something cameras that give pics a professional look :) For now, I guess I'll work with Google images and my digital camera :)

How bout some random pics of my fav gospel artistes to go with this post :)

Yolanda Adams has a sensational voice! And a great anointing in her life

Mary Mary...they bring new, fresh and funky to gospel music.

Marvin Sapp. An exceptional mass of talent right here. His songs have been a blessing to me.

Kirk Franklin. He spells CONTEMPORARY in gospel. I never grow out of his music.

Kim Burrell. She's got soul..Jesus...and SOUL! :) One of the best voices I've ever heard.

Fred Hammond. His songs have a touch of 80s/90s pop..exemplary!

Donnie McClurkin. What can I say? He's a MAN OF GOD! He has MAD anointing!

Lisa McClendon. So far, my favourite neo-soul gospel artiste. Exceptional she is!

Old is PLATINUM :)

I love vintage fashion. Haute couture...50's and 60's inspired designs..just love it! The look has a sense of class and bourgeios :) (learning some new vocabulary as you can tell, lol). However, not for my everyday look..but on occasion I would go vintage. Problem is, we don't have much of that style of fashion here in Kenya. Most of the clothes here have a bit of vintage inspiration..but that's all it is..inspiration.

I'm already shopping for wedding dresses (despite the fact that I'm not engaged yet) and I'm liking the dresses I saw on some website www.dollycouture.com. They are extraordinary in my opinion..absolutely fab! Feast your eyes on samples of what I would call...exquisite.

I especially love the simplicity in this one (below)...
